One Fatality, Two Injured in I-69 Crash Near 318-Mile Marker

On September 9, 2026, at approximately 7:26 a.m., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police responded to the area of southbound I-69 near the 318-mile marker regarding a personal injury crash. Dispatch advised that callers reported a single motor vehicle had left the roadway.

Upon arrival, officers and medics located a red Chevrolet Impala off the roadway and into the trees on the west side of I-69. All three occupants were extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. The front-seat passenger was initially reported to be in critical condition. After arriving at the hospital, one of the passengers was pronounced deceased. A second passenger was determined to have life-threatening injuries, while the third passenger was determined to have non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on I-69 with three occupants when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway. The vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway, struck a sign, and continued farther off the roadway before striking several trees.

The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
