Crash results in death in Northeast Allen County

At approximately 650AM, officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 14000 blk of Grabill Rd in reference to a vehicle into a pond with an individual still in the water. Northeast Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and were able to remove the victim from the water. Life saving measures were attempted at the scene and the victim was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The victim is an elderly female and was the only occupant of the vehicle. The vehicle was northbound on Roth Rd. when it left the roadway for an unknown reason. The vehicle then drove through a field before the vehicle drover into the pond. The front end of the vehicle was the only part of the car that was in the water. The victim was not ejected from the vehicle, and it is believed the victim exited the vehicle on her own. This investigation is active and ongoing. The Allen County Sheriff’s Department was assisted the scene by Northeast Fire and EMS, Fort Wayne Fire Department Dive and SCUBA, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The identity of the victim along with the cause and manner of death will be released at a later date by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
