The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is committed to transparency and providing public access to records in accordance with Indiana’s Access to Public Records Act (APRA).
How to Request Records
We’ve made it easier than ever to request public records. You can now submit your request through our online portal, which allows for faster processing and tracking of your request.
Important Information
Exemptions
Certain records may be exempt from disclosure under Indiana or federal law, including:
- Active/ongoing criminal investigations
- Juvenile records
- Records containing protected personal information
- Confidential informant information
- Records that would endanger public safety
Required Information
To process your request efficiently, please provide:
- Your name and contact information
- Detailed description of the records requested
- Involved party/parties
- Date range (if applicable)
- Location of incident
- Case number or incident number (if known)
- Any other identifying information
To help ensure your Access to Public Records Act (APRA) request can be processed efficiently, please provide as much specific information as possible. Requests that are vague, overly broad, seek records not created or maintained by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, or involve records that are confidential or exempt from disclosure under Indiana law may result in delays or denial
Fees
Fees may apply for copying, certification, or extensive record searches. Fee schedules are available upon request and comply with Indiana law.
