Death Investigation at the Allen County Jail

The Indiana State Police, with the assistance of the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, are investigating the death of an inmate that occurred on 04/25/2025 at the Allen County Jail.
At approximately 1000am, officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 2800 blk of Hillegas Rd on a reported crash with injuries. Officers arrived on the scene and located a single vehicle that struck a utility pole on the west side of the roadway. The driver was unconscious and was removed from the vehicle by police. Life saving efforts were immediately started by police and continued until West Central Fire personnel arrived on the scene and took over patient care. The driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Hillegas Rd was closed for about 1.5 hours while utility companies made necessary repairs. The roadway has since been reopened. This cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
