Home Improvement Scam:
Two days ago an older lady was scammed by an individual claiming to be “John Boswell” who showed up at her house saying he had left over material and could coat her driveway. After he completed the job, he demanded $2500.00 for her small driveway. She was scammed out of all the cash she had at home. The man then wanted to know where her bank was. He would not take a check and she would not tell him where she banked.
The truck is described as a white pickup truck with the male that approached her being about 45 years old and another younger guy who he called his “son”. The truck was backed up in a way that the victim could not read the plate. Although this incident occurred in a neighboring county, it does occur in Allen County, usually around this time of year when the weather starts getting warmer.
Please check with the Better Business Bureau before hiring any unfamiliar company to perform work for you. Be suspicious of anybody who shows up unexpectedly claiming to have extra material from another job and offering a discount for work that you did not request. This includes driveway coating, roofing, siding, or any other home repair. If you are suspicious, try to remember as much information about the person and vehicle as possible and call your local police department.
