Overnight Crash Shuts Down I-69

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a semi tractor trailer just after 3:05 A.M. this morning, September 24, 2019. The crash occurred near the 308.4 mile marker on I-69, northbound. The semi broke through the median barrier wall and ended up partially on the southbound side of I-69 as well. The interstate was shut down completely by 3:15 AM. Northbound I-69 was reopened by 5:30 A.M. and southbound I-69 was reopened completely at 7:45 A.M., after the semi was removed and the scene was cleared of debris.

The Department of Homeland Security assisted with the incident because of the amount of fuel leaking from the semi and the Fort Wayne Police Department assisted with traffic control, rerouting motorists.

The driver of the semi was treated and released for minor injuries. There were at least two other crashes involving vehicles that struck the semi prior to police arriving on the scene of the original crash.
