One Person Dead After Two Vehicle Crash
At approximately 6:52 a.m., Friday, December 30th, 2016, officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to 16398 Amstutz Road at Schlatter Road for a reported traffic crash. When officers arrived, they found that a red Ford Escape was northbound on Amstutz Road when it crossed the center line and struck a white van traveling southbound on Amstutz Road. The male driver and sole occupant of the van was wearing his seatbelt and not injured. The male driver of the Ford Escape received minor injuries. The female passenger of the Ford Escape who was not wearing her seatbelt was deceased at the scene. There was an 8-month-old infant properly restrained in a car seat in the back of the Ford Escape who appeared uninjured. Icy road conditions appeared to be a contributing factor. The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
