One Person Arrested After Crashing into an Allen County Police Car and Fleeing

Details:

On Sunday May 8, 2022, at approximately 5:14 a.m., Allen County Police Officers responded to the 10800 block of Trade Wind Court for a reported vehicle that had driven into a yard and was stuck.  Dispatch then advised that the driver had gotten his truck unstuck and fled the scene.  While talking to the complainant, officers were advised that the driver had gotten out of his truck, then retrieved a tool from the back, and broken out his driver’s side window prior to fleeing.  A short time later, the responding officer observed a silver in color pick-up truck matching the description, in the area of Dupont Road and I-69.  The driver of the pick-up did a U-turn and drove towards the officer.  The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to turn out of the path of the oncoming truck.  The truck struck the officers vehicle in the driver’s side door and quarter panel.  The driver then drove a short distance before stopping in the roadway.  The officer involved in the crash was then able to get his door open and place the driver under arrest.  The driver, and sole occupant of the truck was identified as Dustin Wade Freeman M/W/30 of Fort Wayne.  Mr. Freeman was arrested and charged with 1 count of Operating While Intoxicated, 1 count of Operating While Intoxicated (Endangerment), 2 counts of Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash, 1 count of Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, 1 count of Possession of Marijuana, and 1 count of Resisting Law Enforcement/Fleeing in a Vehicle. The officer was not injured in the crash.
