Local 9 Year Old Invited to Train with Allen County Sheriff’s SWAT Team

Date:              Tuesday, July 12 at 1:00 pm
Location:       Allen County Training Center,  5080 Adams Center Road
Event:            SWAT Training Day with 9 year old Devin Robinson

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department has invited 9 year old Devin Robinson to attend a scheduled training session with the Allen County SWAT team.

In August of 2015, Devin was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After several months of chemo treatments, Devin went into remission.

In early May, 2016, Devin invited local Police and Fire to his 9th birthday party, as he is a huge fan of First Responders. Unfortunately, Devin fell ill just days before his party and ended up back in the hospital. After several days, Doctors were still not able to diagnosis what was causing Devin’s high fever. They then discovered his liver was enlarged and he had fluid around his gall bladder, so Devin was air-lifted to Riley Hospital, on what would have been the night of his 9th birthday party. Several Officers were able to visit him before he was transferred to Riley, but Devin was not coherent enough to visit with them.

The Department has kept in close contact with Devin and his family, and is happy to report that Devin is back home and improving after being diagnosed with Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Thankfully, doctors diagnosed his HLH early, and he is receiving treatment.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department has invited Devin and his family to attend a scheduled SWAT training day to get hands on experience on what SWAT team members do. Several K9 Officers have also been invited, as Devin loves dogs.
