After completion of a 7-week course that began earlier this year, thirteen Allen County residents will graduate from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department Citizen’s Academy. The Citizen’s Academy has been meeting once a week to enhance the partnership between the Sheriff’s Department and the citizen’s of Allen County in the hope of reducing crime by involving community participation.
Class attendees receive an overview of what the Sheriff’s Department does and how it operates. Training sessions include: Professionalism and Training, the Criminal Investigative Process, Patrol Duties, Narcotics Operations, Physical Tactics, Firearms and Survival Skills, Presentation from the Prosecutors Office, Familiarization of the K-9 and SWAT Operations, Community Partnerships as well as tours of various County facilities.
