Allen County Sheriff’s Department Employee Appreciation Banquet
Sheriff David J. Gladieux honored several officers on the evening of Friday, December 7th at an awards banquet held at Ceruti’s on Illinois Road. Every year Sheriff Gladieux receives letters from citizens whose lives have been directly impacted by his officers who are “just doing their jobs”. Those officers are presented with a Letter of Appreciation by Sheriff Gladieux at the time.
Several times a year officers are called to a scene in which they go above and beyond expectations, or are faced with life or death situations that they must deal with. Some officers save lives by using AEDs, Narcan, CPR or other medical measures. Some officers respond to suicidal subjects and use their listening and verbal skills to calm the person and prevent the suicide. Some officers enter freezing water or burning buildings putting their own safety at risk to selflessly attempt to save a life.
Whatever the situation, Sheriff Gladieux reviews the incident and determines if the officers’ actions merit an award greater than a letter of appreciation. During the 2018 Banquet, 14 officers received various awards including the Department’s Bronze Star of Valor, Life Saving award, and Letter of Commendation. Although Sheriff Gladieux knows and expects that all of his officers go above and beyond on a daily basis, only the officers that are recommended by their superiors are considered for recognition at the banquet. Approximately 240 officers, civilian employees, family members and retirees attended the event.
