Allen County Jail Gets New Commander and Assistant Commander

In continuing his pledge to improve the safety, efficiency, and morale of the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Gladieux has replaced the former Jail Commander and Assistant Jail Commander with Commissioned Police Officers.

Alan Cook has been promoted from Corporal of the Patrol Division to Captain of the Confinement Division as the new Jail Commander. Captain Cook will oversee the daily operations of the facility. He started his career with the Department in 1988 as a Commissioned Police Officer.  Captain Cook has served in the Jail as a Commissioned Police Officer, Inner City Transportation Officer, Patrolman in the Traffic Division, Detective in the Vice & Narcotics Metro Squad, and Command Officer in the Patrol Division. Captain Cook has risen through the ranks to his present position as Jail Commander and brings 28 years of experience to his new position.

David Butler has been promoted from Corporal in the Patrol Division to Lieutenant of the Confinement Division as the Assistant Jail Commander. Lieutenant Butler will assist in the daily operations of the facility.  Lieutenant Butler started his career with the Department in 1988 as a Civilian Confinement Officer.  Shortly after being sworn on as a Commissioned Police Officer in 1997, Lieutenant Butler transferred to the Department’s Dispatch Center.  Lieutenant Butler has also served in the Patrol Division where he was promoted to Corporal.  After joining the SWAT Team in 1999 he became a team leader in 2006 leading over 300 SWAT operations.  Lieutenant Butler has risen through the ranks and also brings 28 years of experience to his present position.

Captain Cook and Lieutenant Butler were among several commissioned officers that applied for the vacant positions.  After a thorough application process, which included command interviews, Sheriff Gladieux determined that they both possessed the qualifications and professionalism needed to run the largest division of the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
