August 25th, 2008

At approximately 0845 hours this morning a disturbance erupted out side the courtroom in the Allen County Courthouse where a trial was set to begin. The trial of William Shoemaker, charged with voluntary manslaughter and criminal recklessness in the death of Valentino Garcia, was ultimately delayed as a result of a fight that broke out involving family members of both the defendant and victim in the case.

The listed suspects along with the victims in this incident, Howard and Kenneth Knight (uncles of defendant William Shoemaker) were waiting outside the courtroom when a fight broke out. Other participants in the fight included Jason D. Terry and Jeremy Lee Queen, stepsons of Howard Knight and Richard and Michael Garcia, brothers of Valentino Garcia the victim in the manslaughter case.

Howard and Kenneth Knight were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries they received in this incident. One county police officer, Michael Neumann, was treated for a minor injury.

The incident remains under investigation by the Allen County Police Department.
