DATE: September 15, 2007
DETAILS: On Saturday, September 15, 2007, at approximately 12:22 p.m. the Allen County Sheriff’s Department received a call that a M/W/33 had just left the 2800 block of Kroemer Road and was enroot to his fathers residence in the 600 block of Tennessee Avenue with a knife. The caller further advised that her son was threatening suicide, was distraught, and threatened to harm the police. Upon arrival of the initial officer, it was determined that the suspect had arrived at his father’s residence on Tennessee Avenue and had barricaded himself and his father inside. The Allen County Officer, with the assistance of a Fort Wayne Police Officer, was able to remove the father, unharmed, through a window. Sheriff Ken fries was then notified of the situation and the SWAT Team was called. Upon arrival of the SWAT Team, officers attempted to talk the suspect into coming out of the apartment. After all attempts to talk the suspect out of the apartment failed, the SWAT Team made entry into the residence. When the team entered the apartment, the suspect began swinging a large knife, striking an officer in the arm. The suspect was shot with a Taser which immediately immobilized him, allowing officers to secure him in handcuffs. The officer received a minor cut to his arm. The suspect received no injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The incident is still under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Division and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
