WHAT:            Two Injured After Battering Female, Fleeing Police and Crashing Into House.

DETAILS:     On July 25, 2007, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Corporal Cary Fries with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department was on his way home from work when he observed a vehicle sitting at the intersection of Gump and Lima Roads.  Corporal Fries observed a physical altercation between the driver and a female who was lying on the ground.  As Corporal Fries approached the Dodge Neon the driver started to flee.  Corporal Fries stopped to check on the female and observed that her eyes were black and blue and the side of her face was covered in blood.  Corporal Fries followed the vehicle which refused to stop.  The suspect vehicle lost control and crashed, striking a house at

16219 Old Lima Road, Huntertown, IN. The driver and his passenger on the Dodge Neon were transported to Parkview Hospital in serious condition.  As of 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007, Mr. Smead had been released and Mr. Schambers is listed in fair condition.  The Allen County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation.  The findings of the investigation will be forwarded to the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
