INSTRUCTIONS FOR GUN PERMIT APPLICATION

- If you live within the city limits of Fort Wayne, New Haven or Woodburn, you can not apply for a gun permit from the Allen County Sheriffs Department. You must go to the police department in the town of which you are a resident.
- If you are a resident of another state and have a regular place of business or employment of 40 hours a week or more in Allen County Indiana you are eligible to apply for a gun permit with in Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
- A gun permit can only be renewed when it is within 180 days of the expiration date.
- The initial application must be filled out in the Bureau of Identification (B of I) office located in the Bud Meeks Justice Center, 101 E. Superior St., (corner of Superior and Calhoun St.) Room B-25 (in the basement.)
- Gun permit applications are ONLY taken from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- To complete the process, two (2) Money Orders or Cashier Checks are required. One for the Local Fee in the appropriate amount made payable to the Allen County Police Department and a second for the State Fee in the appropriate amount made payable to the State of Indiana.
- Two (2) weeks from the day of the initial application, or anytime thereafter, the application MUST BE PICKED UP to forward to the State. You will need to pick up the application yourself, as fingerprints are required. The application will be kept for a maximum of six (6) months.
- The B of I will provide an envelope to mail your Gun Permit to the State Police. Three (3) postage stamps are required (due to size of envelope).
- The requested Gun Permit will be mailed by the State of Indiana to the mailing address entered on the Gun Permit application.
- Please print your return address on the envelope when mailing.
- The white copy of the application is mailed to the State. The pink copy is for your records; do not mail this copy to the State.
*** NO CELL PHONES, PAGERS, CAMERAS, PDA’S OR AUDIO EQIIPMENT OF
ANY KIND IS PERMITTED IN THE ALLEN COUNTY COURT HOUSE OR THE
CHARLES “BUD” MEEKS JUSTICE CENTER. COURT OFFICER’S WILL NOT
HOLD ITEMS WHILE YOU ARE IN THE COURT HOUSE.

* = This is the portion of the Local Fee that is refundable if a license is not issued. The entire state fee is refundable if no license is issued.
